Reggae Music in Jamaica
In the 1960s, Bunny Lee made the shift from rocksteady music to reggae music in Jamaica. The reason why reggae music is a key part of Jamaican culture, is because it was created there. Ever since, Jamaica has been known for their reggae music. Reggae has now traveled to countries outside of Jamaica as well. However, reggae stars come from Jamaica. A star well known for his reggae music is a man named Bob Marley. He has created famous songs such as One Love or Jamming. Another famous reggae song came from an American, Bobby Bloom. He made the song Montego Bay, a song about the Jamaican city Montego Bay. There are many subgenres of reggae, such as dancehall, shank, lovers rock, and reggae fusion. These subgenres make up the well known main music genre of reggae, created in Jamaica.
